Clap, Clap, Clap

By Meher Randeria

Clap, clap, Clap

Clap, clap, clap.

Praise the kid,

Smiling so wide, so wicked.

Clap, Clap, clap.

Another day, another destiny;

Another near miss for me.

Clap, clap, Clap.

He goes up and claims

What’s his: prizes with fame.

Clap, Clap, Clap.

The hard, crusted rack

Feels soft on my back.

Clap, Clap, Clap

The sleepless nights and balls-

Did they mean aught at all?

Clap, clap, Clap

Civility, a docile thing

Helps with the placidity it brings.

Clap, Clap, clap

These applause are quite long,

For the wonder kid singing a song.

Clap, clap, clap

The room’s closing in, and quite hot;

Next time, maybe, I’ll get my shot.
