Original Submission by Manuri De Silva

Children of God.

I have seen in your eyes the hope that shines

I have seen in your mind a joy that smiles

I have seen the love in your heart, your soul

And how much of yourself you gave for gold.

You shined for others like stars in the sky

Small, yet bright you broke through the night

Words so kind passed through lips divine

You only grew as the dark threatened the sunshine.

And so when they broke you, your eyes in surprise

How it amazed you how hate can thrive.

Tears filled your eyes as the light slowly died

And a spirit that refused to die slowly lost its might.

You believed a truth that life could not be so brute

In quiet you asked why the truth had to be so mute

In spite of it all you still dared to hope

For a kind word or heart, for small mercy tomorrow.

But they looked on with eyes hot lava cold

With hearts of stone lost in the old

Darling you spirit refuses to know

That you my darling are the children of a lesser God.
