Charitable Dissonance – Neo Abrahams

Sympathy is easy,

Empathy is hearty

And not so breezy.

Disconnect from humanity

Of the lowest on the totem pole

Enduring what you never have before,

And now serve the poorest on the floor,

And I have charitable dissonance.

You don’t know what you can’t understand,

Don’t think I’m being preachy,

I’m just admitting my reality,

Cause those who can’t see those

Whose hard times aren’t transparent to me.

I’m a bad guy,

I have my head too high in the sky,

A selfish loser who is too inconsiderate,

Who stands constantly pissed and self-focused.

The poorest of the people deserve more than me,

Like a healthy rich feast,

And I just deserve all the disgust of dirt and dust.

…...You know what, I’m wrong! –

I actually try to care but I just can’t,

And that’s ok,

There’s nothing anyone can say,

But it’s brave.

The sacrifices are the real sunlight,

Making the poor feel rich with me.

I still see a human when faced eye to eye.

Sacrifice for others and acknowledge the dissonance.
