Changing Course

Man created canals and built numerous dams,

Altering a river’s course seems a mere sham!

A hole in the sky, depleted layer of Ozone,

Puts mankind in a self-destructing zone!

A mere spec of sand, we are just a dot,

Among a zillion stars, Earth is a mere spot!

Yet, ever ready to destroy, even self-immolate!

For us the apocalypse looms, but we fail to relate.

The threat of Star Wars, looks closer than we feel

As changing course of asteroids, is no big deal;

See how a rocket strikes ‘Dimorphos’ with precision

Tampering with nature, was a deliberate decision!

Rockets and bombs pierce the roofs and floors

Threat of ‘dirty bombs’ is knocking at our doors!

Wombs torn apart, as motherhood is tormented

Universal brotherhood is slighted and dented.

Love is banished and moral values are shut,

The World is bleeding from a thousand cuts;

No saviours are in sight, no Buddha nor Christ,

Peace is guillotined at the altar of deceit and heist.

I see no end to wars, but mankind’s end is in sight,

As the foe is hell bent on destruction each night;

In our collective conscience we have loads of mistrust

Imploding from within, towards misery we are thrust!

If wars could decide to change the course of history

Peace and sanity vanish, like an unsolved mystery.

Death walks like a ghost in dark and lost ‘Kingdom’!

Mindlessly we spill human blood and call it ‘Martyrdom’!

Missiles, bombs and rockets are blasting asunder

Asteroids we feared would one day hit us down under!

But here, we are falling prey to our avarice and spite,

Our last rites will be done by maggots and termites!!
