“Carousel of Us”

I’ll no longer be in the crowd cheering you on,

Through sunny days or when the clouds pour rain.

But just so you know, there’s a prayer with your name on it,

Falling from a mouth you’ll never hear again.

Each smile frozen on a painted horse made our memories whirl like a carousel,

Confetti flew through the air as the magician cast a spell of stories to tell.

Spending my last dime on a ticket out of your heavy gaze,

Shining through sun-rays, a smile given to all, remembered in a daze.

A heart designed to hold an ocean was never meant

For those who can’t even hold a lake.

Even when it’s finally time and you learn to hold it whole,

It will already be too late.

All that’s left to feel is another heartbreak.

May we all fall in love with someone who speaks our language,

Who understands us instead of leaving us hanging

On the edge of a cliff that quietly turns into hidden ravage.

So we won’t spend a lifetime translating our soul,

Or show up every time,

Only to be cast in an empty role.
