Carnal Civility

What are we?

Those of us who confront

Our own desire

And starve it.

Are we beyond this world

Or are we simply cruel to ourselves?

Lull ourselves into

A deadly slumber

With the fallacy of civility.

Our hands long to reach,

But our minds

Oh our selfish minds

Seek only to comfort themselves

And as a result, all the blood

In our lode halts, the flesh grows frigid.

The mind is still and content.

Hollow as an ancient sepulcher.

We step into civil society

And wear our noose

With biblical pride.

The horse is high,

But so is the fall.
