CAR GUARD

CAR GUARD

I park my car and stride to my destination

Standing there, her face portrays utter desperation

to coin enough money to pay for a place to sleep

Within her, her fears and hurt run deep

Cowboy hat on her head against the sun

Thin but strong, to every car she will run

Hoping and expecting from the drivers a few bob

After all, for her, it’s a job

Hair cut short frames the small oval face

Standing in the parking lot, which is her base

Arms berry brown from the sun burning down

Sunscreen smeared over her countenance, looking like a clown

Skinny legs clad in torn faded jeans

She wonders sadly what became of her dreams

Bright purple sneakers shod her feet

A chocolate given to her, a wonderful treat!

Through the pink blouse peep a few holes

On her neck two dark brown moles

Hands rough from hard work and neglected

No miracles can be expected!

Fixedly smiling, greeting all and sundry

Stomach growling she is always hungry

A customer donates a bowl of hot food

But not all are so caring, some are quite rude!

The end of the day draws nigh

Tired and weary she emits a huge sigh

Kick starting the old motor bike

At least today she will not have to hike
