Candid Scribbles

I still dream of you,

Hoping we’ll find each other

despite the difficult dreams we chase

And I wonder if my love for you will be different,

If it’ll be pure and open, like the love that I want

If it’ll hold onto truth fiercely.

If I gave you all of my love,

I wonder if you’d hold it gently for my fragile heart and I

And never let me slip and sink into patterns of fear that riddle my mind,

constantly trying to keep me in my head and away from you.

See I want a love that wants me to be great,

that holds me hostage to courage and gives me wings

That picks me up when I fall, and encourages me when I want to give up,

I dream of a love that I want, that wants me back!

That calms my spirit and makes me smile

I want a love that’s inherently pure and kind,

that surrenders to God,

and that loves Him too.

I want a whimsical love for the kid in me

And a strong and steady love, for the big and scary fears that still stifle me at times

A love that helps me breathe a little easier

I want a love that knows my heart, and chooses me still

A love that feels better than the culmination of my favourite things

That sounds better than perfect songs

A love that doesn’t cloud my perception but sharpens my sight

That teaches me to dance when my mind’s trapped

I want a love that holds me tight in thought and grips me right in real-time

But most of all…

When I think of our love,

I hope we find it beyond our silos of time and space

And that God teaches us how to love each other in this lifetime

and maybe even the next.
