Butterfly
By Annesha Ghosh
Once I was a butterfly
In a dream that's etched in my soul
Like silent fading scars that mark the delicate skin
And linger like the incarnation of a distant past.
I flew through the greys of an unforeseen land
Dripping my jewels on the rough stone chips
From the lack of symmetry that my wings withheld
Resonating resemblance with my chaotic life.
Bewildered and desolate, I cried for help
And then in my gaze I found you there,
Lost and unsettled, with big bright eyes
That twinkled when their black met
The rainbow of me.
You came warily and touched my edge
And a longing current shot right through me,
I felt as if I found the sole purpose of my life:
To colour your heart and to make you fly.
So, sparkles and glitters conspired through us,
Till you were ecstatic, and I was grey
But I knew that when I'll wake up later
At least in my dream, I'll live in you.
