BRZEZINKA

He stands behind the electrified fence

An icy wind blows through his rags adorning his frail body

As he deeply inhales the smell of petrichor

He digs deep for his old memories of happiness

Trembling legs betray his fear as guards patrol close by

Mouth moving silently, he whispers a prayer

Asking for eternal hope and strength

A klaxon screams harshly, torturing his ears

Slowly he walks back to the crowded hut

Another day has passed in Auschwitz

For now, freedom is the smell of a damp forest

Growing thickly in the far distance

One day he will be free!
