Brown Women

We are brown women

We are born in confusion, rejection and sometimes shame

More often raised in uncertainty, fear and bane

Oh, when we grow up

Bombarded with expectations, lust and dare

What we become is unmatched reality with perception in a frame

Oh, then doubts, insecurities and misconceptions

drilled in heads over love, life and the birth-chain

Come on, sit there

Men of same origins would unknowingly oppress their own counterparts

As if human is not woman

Well, it doesn’t stop here

The gender itself mishandles the strengths ingrained

Then society will ask

Who to blame

Oh Lord, the day when a woman will stand up for herself and others

There will be war inside and outside

Beyond him, her or sane

There will be terms which we will never settle easily on

There will be wings not everyone could see to fly with

Words would fail to measure the weight

on their hearts, shoulders and mind

But them, the women of colour,

They will never stop

Until next time

Until next rhyme

Until the world collapses again

Until the Sun never shines again ….
