And soothe the winds Assuage the storm And trap it in How long though should it be a silent hymn

It’s ladies time, just carry your butts Off the gym!

Breathe… Breathe…

10:30am to 2:00pm, Read correctly as ‘men not free’ time Then why funnily call it ladies time?

A three and a half hour of lease Is all we deserve against the fees

Why not a fancier unisex gym you think I’ll spend this line here to let you rethink

Let’s go off the rhyme scheme just for a little while It’s important here, though it’s not my style

‘Not all of us afford to trust’

‘Not all of them are trustworthy’

‘Not all fathers give the money’

‘Not all mothers have voice’

‘Not all husbands are supportive’

‘Not all in-laws understand’

Breathe…Breathe…

But I must go to the gym somehow Whatever it takes for my world to allow

Not that I can’t function at this weight Or can’t meet my husband’s eye with this gait

But for my own sake And my ever evolving body and growing age

I must go to the gym, get some exercise Like oiling old machinery that could rust otherwise

Breathe…Breathe…

In the mornings, I’d quickly make breakfast, pack all your tiffin boxes There’d be absolutely no time to waste I’d cook lunch too and fry 2 papads extra So you don’t think I’ve compromised out of haste

I’d then calm my new born And put her to sleep right before I leave She’d not wake up to bother you For at least another two hours I believe

Breathe…Breathe…

I’d wear a loose kurta over gym tights And if you deny, I’d also avoid the whites So my skin doesn’t peep out of the sweaty white chest-hugging gym top That I could change into Only in the ladies slot

I’d not chit chat too much after And return in time Take a quick shower and pick up where I left, A little faster this time

I’d rinse off my gym clothes and add them to the lot that goes in the washing machine this hour I’d not wash them later and waste any extra power

Breathe…Breathe…

And of course it’s all fallen in place I’ve left my job so acres of mental space In addition to this fact I attach I cannot be at a job if I want the 10:30am ladies batch

But this is just my background There are a fifteen others like me around Not a big number if you feel Neither is three and a half hours much of a deal

This is our time I repeat And we deserve every bit of it Minute to minute.

Having said all of that,

Now that we get to the gym doorstep somehow

And you are here, still pushing weights Pampering biceps, flaunting abs or What else now?

But when I say, “it’s 10:45, get out”, You don’t say a word next, grab your little bag And your six packed ego and

LEAVE NOW!

Breathe…Breathe…

And soothe the winds Assuage the storm And trap it in Then filter it out Pinch by pinch Until it all deflates from within Now breath back in again The dead storm’s mortal remains Pour them in the soul And rinse of the remaining stains Throw it out yet again Making space for new storm A new breath to relieve the pain

Breathe…Breathe…

Breathe
