Born to Fight

From cradle cold ‘neath thunder’s cry,

I learn’d too soon that men must die;

The world did greet me not with light,

But cast me forth-yet born to fight.

The storm became my faithful guide,

Whilst sorrow walk’d close by my side;

Each wound upon my flesh was writ

As proof mine heart would never quit.

Though cruel tongues like daggers came,

And fate itself did curse my name,

I stood amidst the darkest night

With soul unbow’d and born to fight.

When weary kings their banners fell,

And saints grew cold in earthly hell, Still did I rise through ash and flame, A warrior none could ever tame.

The heavens heard my battle cry,

Whilst broken angels fill’d the sky;

The moon did crown mine armour bright, As stars proclaim’d: “Thou wert born to fight.” No chain of grief nor hand of fear

Could bend the path that drew me here; For deep within this mortal frame

There burns a wild immortal flame. And should the grave one day call me, I shall not kneel nor beg to flee;

For death itself shall know my might- I lived, I bled, was born to fight.
