Black Crime (Free Verse Poem)

By Kadeem Golebourne

Black man,

You are part of clan.

You grew a heavy heart

Because your father did not play his part.

My brother,

You came from a black mother

So why are you killing your black brother?

Now you a walking a thin black line

All because you used a black tech nine.

Every day

We see bodies on the ground

Every day

We are a crowd under a cloud.

And the cloud keeps raining pain.

We had unity once

Now silence turns it into a blackout.

Everyone is scared to speak.

Everyone scared to speak with their own mouth.

Listen, my people

Black is not in vain

I don’t want to bleach myself

I want to leave the crack behind.

Leaving crack means putting down the Glock

Black people need to uplift black people.
