Bittersweet
By Maryll Princely
I feel you dissipate
Like the air from between my lips
From the hollow of my arms, you fade
I see traces of your scent
Taunting me as you slowly slip into the fog
I reach out and grasp hungrily
And yet it vanishes with the faintest touch
I hear your laughter echo among the coldest winds
Finding its way through the pine to my desperate ears
But I am no longer the reason
I cling onto the warmth that you leave on my skin
I pulled you back constantly
Don’t leave me I begged more so
But I held you too tight
You shattered as though glass
Cutting deep into my heart
As I watched you float with the wind
Finally free
Your smile immortalized on those lips of memory
My heart tastes bittersweet
Your absence leaving a gaping wound
Blood and salt collect
Rot festers
I fall further into the darkness of the mind
And yet I smile, wistful
Drenched in poison tinted nostalgia
At least you’re happy
