Baptism

He started breathing heavily

after almost being drowned

by the newness of life,

his lungs burning,

his mind reeling from the sudden strife.

Gasping and sputtering,

he clawed his way to shore,

emerging transformed -

not the man he was before.

The world around him shimmered

with vibrant hue,

each sensation amplified,

every experience new.

The weight of the past

slipped away like sand,

as he stood trembling,

reborn in this foreign land.

With each breath he felt his spirit expand,

overwhelmed by possibilities

both terrifying and grand.

Though the waters had nearly claimed his soul,

he found himself, paradoxically,

more whole.

Now he stands at the threshold of uncharted days,

ready to navigate

life's intricate maze.

For in nearly drowning,

he learned to swim

in the vast ocean of potential

that lay within.

Self-pity dissolved

due to the life captured by his breath.

He stands mightily

even in humbling circumstances -

no longer digging graves

for his enemies with his tongue.

He seems to have caught God

before he ascended,

and became a blessing

planted in life's fertile soil.
