About the Artwork
Supuli Hewage shares an intimate journey through the creation of "Awakening," noting how the painting began as a deviation from her original intention. The background, initially viewed as a misstep, lay dormant until a reinspired moment led to the emergence of a lotus motif. Representing resilience, the lotus blooms in three stages, mirroring a path of personal growth: a closed bud, a partially open flower, and a fully bloomed lotus. This contemplation transformed the painting into a dialogue between the creator and the canvas, embedded with gold details symbolizing the luminescence of each life phase. Hewage names this transformative experience "Awakening," capturing that subtle yet profound shift in perception and inviting the audience to interpret its significance in their own way.
