Caption Of Artwork: "Folklore", 54cm × 37cm, poster color on paper. This is a painting that encapsulates the rich and diverse culture of the famous indian folk painting styles. Since the dawn of time, there have been various scriptures that depict lores and stories, which have over the millenia evolved into artistic forms like folk paintings. Every part of India has different styles of folk paintings, which each tell their very own stories. This painting, "folklore",as the name suggests, depicts various stories across india through different forms of folk arts. It is perhaps a scenic compilation of artforms like madhubani, patachitra, gond, rajasthani painting etc. It also shows the elements of the earth, that are: the water-comprising the fish, the land- with nature, humans and animals and the sky- having birds and the celestial bodies. These elements have been used in paintings all throughout history. But mostly, I love the idea of how this single painting posseses the ability to depict the multitude of cultures and stories from all over india.
