Apocalypse on Mankind
By Kunal Grover
When the year began, we all were caught in our endless happy emotions
Right after new year we focussed on our listed resolutions
In a zap we were in the month of March
People thought that previous year’s accounts would be closed
Aloof in normality we didn’t realise that the year had already start
People ticking the checkboxes on their list and carrying out tasks that were proposed
All of a sudden some chinese guy ate a bat soup
Not only the news fled in but also the virus
Governments across the globe were shook
Every family’s plan got ruined for this year, flooding their desires
Day by day, months passed by
With the Government declaring a lockdown and placing our nation on a standby
For three months straight, no jobs no schools
Families turning on their news channels in hope of a brighter view
Not knowing that they’ll have to rush to the grocery stores and hoard
“Keeping my family at home I will bring the supplies” said every dad and kept this bulletin on board
Kids on the other hand, found ways to keep them happy by cooking snacks at home
For a while the children enjoyed, thinking of not waking up every morning, changing their clothes
Who knew that one day they will all be bored
Bored of watching television and attending virtual classes
And unable to go to their soccer practices
In a world with technology every job came in handy
Dads working from home, kids attending virtual school while eating candy
Funny how our lives changed in a zap, in our own discomfort we made ourselves comfortable
Tragic how kids can now lie on their beds, mute themselves and watch shows on their cable
By wearing a mask, how everything could change, no wonder
So I decided to wear a mask go shop some vegetables for my mother
What I saw when I went out is no less than a horror
The streets were all empty and dogs finding shade
Barricades were all over the streets and people’s joy seemed to be getting fade
Only those ration shops were the places where you could actually find people
People waiting in long lines buying food for their families to put on the table
Was it only me or did everyone find those chalk circles
Right before any shop people were supposed to be socially distant
On my way back to home, on each street I could see poor people begging
Wish I could’ve done something for them but the fear of the pandemic was outraging
So now, its towards the end of this year
And slowly, people are overcoming their fears
Which I agree we should comprehend, start co-living and accepting the situation
Till the time this pandemic exists, we all shall be adapted to the new normal
2020 proved that all we need is internet and telecommunication
After all like our parents are earning food through internet, we too shall continue our education
Be it our parents or us, we all need to co-live and adapt this uncertainty
I just pray the almighty keeps us steady and not empty
