AN ODE TO HEROES PAST

~ In honour of poets who have inspired me ~

Sound the alarm!

Things have fallen apart.

Our people reek like Belsen Commandant.

The country has fallen.

Low - low like pendant.

Kindred love persists to perpetuate evil.

Yet, it is no one’s business.

For what business of theirs is it

So long their bellies lack rumble

And they live large in blatant bubbles.

On the pulse of the morning,

Sound this warning:

If we refrain from hasty change,

Still, we will rise

But to morose mourning.

We will know why the caged bird sings.

Not through pens of heroes past -

By the doing of our own hands.
