Every journey starts with a mystery- and this is mine.

One day, I was walking through a forest when, out of nowhere, darkness engulfed everything. BAM! Lightning struck nearby, sending chills down my spine. I couldn’t resist the urge to find out what it hit, so I cautiously followed the trail through the eerie wind. Then I saw it, a black, rusty door with a gleaming gold doorknob, standing alone in the middle of the woods. Carved into the door were the words: “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

You’re probably thinking, “That’s not scary.” I thought the same, but the unsettling setting told a different story. Despite the fear, I opened the door.

Thick mist blinded me as I stepped in. I closed my eyes and sprinted forward until a light appeared. I turned around to leave, but the door had vanished. I wandered down a long corridor, lost in its mystery. Then, suddenly, CRASH! A group of people collided into me: two girls, two boys, a young man, and seven adults. It felt like an elephant had landed on me.

That’s when I realized, I was inside "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

There he was: Mr. Willy Wonka. I expected anger, but instead, he kindly asked, “How did you get in?” I told him about the door and the misty hallway. Everyone laughed. Mr. Wonka assumed I was just a fan who’d climbed the gates to meet him. To my amazement, he let me stay, and work as his assistant.

Some of the adults were irritated. They had bought hundreds of Wonka Bars hoping for a golden ticket, and I had entered for free. My lifelong wish had come true.

Violet Beauregarde, the gum-chewing Brat, shouted, “This girl can replace Augustus Gloop!” Grandpa Joe asked me my name. “Nuha Naleef,” I replied. Everyone started trying to pronounce it in strange ways until Mr. Wonka interrupted, “We are wasting precious time!” and took off running.

We arrived at THE INVENTING ROOM, where a huge machine stood. Mr. Wonka pressed a few buttons, and it roared to life. A drawer popped out, revealing what looked like gray cardboard but it was miraculous gum with three full meals. Violet grabbed it and began chewing. Predictably, she turned into a blueberry.

Next, we visited THE NUT ROOM, where squirrels were cracking nuts. Only Veruca Salt, Mike Teavee, Charlie, Grandpa Joe, and I remained. Veruca demanded one of the squirrels. When her father refused, she ran in to grab one herself. The squirrels ganged up and tossed her down the rubbish chute, followed by her parents.

As the tour continued, homesickness crept in. I remembered the door- and how it had disappeared. My heart sank a little. Mr. Wonka, tired of running, led us to his magical elevator, which moved in every direction, even diagonally.

Mike Teavee, of course, pressed the button for The Television Room. Inside, an Oompa Loompa gave us strange glasses. Mike ignored his and transported himself through a chocolate TV experiment. That left only Charlie, Grandpa Joe, and me.

I decided to impress Mr. Wonka by pretending I could see the future. I told him he would give the factory to Charlie- though I’d only read the book. He was stunned. Then he pressed the UP button, and the elevator rocketed through the roof and floated midair.

He asked Charlie to point out his house. Charlie pointed to an old, broken shed. The elevator zoomed there and hovered at the door. Mr. and Mrs. Bucket stepped out, amazed to see a floating elevator. Charlie and Grandpa Joe told them everything.

Suddenly, I had a strong feeling of déjà vu. Once again, I stood in front of that same black, rusty door with the gold doorknob. Thunder rumbled overhead. Somehow, the door had reappeared. I knew it was time to go.

I turned to the others and said goodbye. They stood there silently, watching me walk back through the misty entrance of the mysterious black door-leaving behind a dream I never thought I’d live.
