An Ideal World

By Amrita Manekar

I wish we were living in an ideal world

Thought the ever suffering old man

Where I wouldn't have to break my back

For this little amount of grain.

I wish we were living in an ideal world

Said the ever crying boy

Where I wouldn't have to go to school

And won't ever have to share a toy.

I wish we were living in an ideal world

Wrote the ever subdued lady

Where I can sing and laugh all I want

And not just write such thoughts in this diary.

I wish we were living in an ideal world

Thundered the omniscient God

Where people would stop praying for an ideal world

And be content with just what they've got.
