An Elegy To My Father

There are not enough words to describe

Just how important my father was to me –And

What a powerful influence he used to be.

He heard me without saying a word

He understood me when I was confused

And hugged me when I was blue.

His endless wisdom and timeless advice

Always helped me find my way.

His heart so kind and very true—And

In him there was no equal—And

I wished everyone on earth

Could have a Dad like him.

Docs said he needed dialysis—But

He said there’s business he must do.

Did you know that you would die-Or

You know that you wouldn’t make it—And

I hate what life did to you

With tearful eyes I watched you suffer

And saw you slowly fade away

Although I loved you dearly

I couldn’t make you stay.

The golden heart stopped beating—And

Hard working hands put to rest.

God saw you getting tired

And a cure was not to be

So, He put His arms around you

And whispered “Come to me”

God broke my heart to prove to me

He only takes the best.

I know you are happy

And no longer in pain,

So, rest my angel, be at peace

And let your soul fly free.

Many tears I have seen and cried,

They poured down like rain,

I miss you Dad and always will—And

There just aren’t enough words to express,

How difficult it is, to exist without you.
