An Attic Love Story
By Ashwini Shajan
My torch threw a useless light,
heaps of your obsessions reminded my plight.
The attic seemed murky, teemed with your smell,
I sobbed, sauntered, n’ over your shoe I fell.
Not a moment there is, that you aren’t missed,
you left with a mere wriggle n’ a twist.
Here in the attic, like a time replay,
we huddled, we cuddled, I recall our days.
‘The house is a bore!’, you mostly claimed,
summoning me to the attic, whenever it rained.
I’d be cross as you messed the locks of my hair,
but then you’d snicker, and I was no more a flare.
Love like ours, seldom stays,
t’is the blameless, who’s soon taken away.
That ghastly midnight, nobody could tell,
hither, in the attic, you lay unwell.
Breathe again, my love, t’was early to die,
my life for yours, a fair trade I’d try.
Coz’ three years ago, our eyes longingly met,
then two years ago, I admired your step.
Yes, love like ours, seldom stays,
t’is the blameless, who’s soon taken away.
We’d play in the attic with your barbies forever,
but I’m alone now, my first born, I’ll forget you never.
