Am I Blessed Or Cursed?
By Tejaswi Bandari
“A Girl is a blessing”, said everyone
When I was a little baby in the swing; Who was pampered and surprised
With glittery gold & never hurled;
Being a charmer who grabs attention
I was called an addiction;
Kind of a house warmer in every occasion
And a spotlight in any celebration;
My Every choice is nodded,
To show nothing in my life is unfair;
When I didn't know what a bad touch was,
My days turned scary thinking of claws!
Hitting that puberty I didn’t even realise
Why I was being so conscious;
I just wished I could stop seeing
Those ogling eyes wherever I go;
I didn’t realise the more often I called upon
A random stranger as ‘Brother;
The more I assumed to be safe and secure
Believing I made him sense sisterhood!
I failed to understand why I was appreciated
Only by studying all day and securing merit;
Not when my identity is being myself
To make my little world beautiful;
If my dreams doesn’t harm anyone
Why is it a bulletin to own my life I dreamt of?
But I’m sure I’m not anyone’s cup of tea
If I am only judged for being selfless and tolerant;
When I think of why or why not
It is a mind boggling puzzle that never ends;
Why lose self respect to stay in a relationship?
Why not take a step to let go self rejection?
Blessing or a Curse;
I have no answer what my life is;
I aim to fly, thinking I have wings, But being a woman do I really have?
