All We Have
By Noyingbeni T. Erui
Strutting in this endless listless existence
I am like a gaping wound,
Trying to get some air.
Keats was ‘half in love with easeful death’
Maybe he was my kindred spirit
Maybe he felt an incoming crash
And opened his seat belt
To feel the eternal blank,
With nothing in mind
Only a certain face imprinted on it.
The face, ever-changing, ever-elusive
Like the love we chased
Until we lost ourselves in the process.
When the end arrived
None of us was there, to claim the prize
We thought we both deserved
For the price, we paid in blood.
I am here. Where are you?
You whisper “It’ll be okay”
Is that the only thing you kept for yourself?
After you push in all your chips and said,
“I am all in.”
You are here. Where am I?
Our coming and going is like a hacksaw
Between our hearts, cutting every tie
That once bonded us.
The end has come,
Where are we?
Please stop the bleeding.s
