After The Calm Comes A Storm

My tender petals wilt and fall to the ground,

The warm sunshine rays, cannot seem to be found.

The melodious chirping is no longer heard,

For their homes await the birds,

The rustle of the leaves bygone,

The memories of hustle bustle forlorn.

The nights are harsh and the winds severe

A reminder that winter is near.

I tremble and quiver and hear my body shriek

A warning that the days will be bleak.

A pale wintry sun lights up the sky

The final reminder, that summer has bid goodbye.

With the cheeriness gone and sadness abound

Draped in frost, I am dumbfound.

Ice permeates my underlying veins,

It feels as if I am tied with chains.

Without the magic of the bright summery sun

I am coming undone.

As the winter continues, it takes pieces of me

It consumes me and prevents me from being free.

My spirit slowly begins to drift away with the cold

By the weather I am wholly controlled.

As I feel myself lose to the weather

I wonder, will I just go away or will something keep me tethered?

I wonder when the sun will shine and summer will reign,

I want to be free of my pain,

The winter demands too much of me,

It drains me of my energy,

I am tired and worn out,

When will I be free of this drought?

The harsh winds with full force, go and come

Maybe this time my roots will succumb.

But I underestimate their might,

They will not go down without a fight.

My roots tether me to the ground

To one place, keeping me bound.

As a law of nature, a calm follows every storm

To help me gather my breath and be reborn.

As I recoup my strength and reaffirm my beliefs

I slowly but surely begin to let go of my grief.

As my energy seeps back and my faith is instilled

I begin to understand life and its drill.

After winter will come the spring,

With melodious chirping, the birds shall sing.

My leaves will rustle and my flowers shall bloom,

With the awaited hustle bustle, I will be rid of my gloom.

Rainbows will follow the rain

The sun too shall rise again.
