Above the Surface (08/10/2026)

I feast off your affection, a relief for my starvation,

its sweet on my tongue, but bitter by mention.

A drug far stronger than any herb or pill,

a high I can't escape, a prophecy I can't fulfil.

I lose all control, my senses are heightened,

my barriers don't come down, I admit, I'm frightened.

I envy those who fall into it so easily,

while I dangle above it for what feels like eternity.

I crave more than fantasies and an empty dream.

I want comfort beyond the tightly closed seam.

We are two souls with one connection,

like magnets, we can't overrule the law of attraction,

The treatment of the world has made me the angry daughter,

when my wrath burns it cannot be put out with water.

It grows and sears the skin of those who come too close,

a curse bestowed upon me which turns lovers into friends and friends into foes.

My sins swallow my sanity, ignites the fear within,

it strengthens my bones, carving names into my skin.

I want more, but I lack the courage and capacity,

so, I do nothing to attain my perfect destiny.

It seems safer to run away and hide,

than to let someone hurt my dignity and pride.

My ordeal ties my feet to the only home I know,

it traps me on the surface and stops me from sinking below.
