A Wake

By Kirtiman Hazarika

In every moment I wait and wait,

I languish at your Beauty's altar,

Pensive, ravished and irate,

But in your gaze, I stay and falter.

Your silence strokes the sullen air,

And saunters into my happy state,

To tantalize with woe and care,

And tease my poems out to sate.

What would I give to have you now,

Your ears and eyes, to kiss and scold!

But fear no anger, for I shall bow,

Always to cherish, to have and hold.

Ere though the hour’s witching,

Has begun to bewitch my Eyes,

Your spell is stronger, far more enriching,

For Love is where my waking dies.
