A Vigil To Nostalgia
By Suchismita Mandal
Let me surge through the ages,
To see myself walking alone,
To see suppressing my inner self every moment.
I had whatever I asked for, whatever I dreamt of.
The pragmatism of life seemed so cruel,
That I wish to escape to surrealism, to illusions once again.
But, somewhere in the midst my innocence has been lost.
I was freed for everything in life,
But was chained with denial of passion.
I searched happiness in midst of comfort,
But life frowned every time.
Life today is so harsh, so incomplete.
The bright lights of science blinded me.
Aggravating desires killed happiness.
Passion love gave place to jealousy. My heart daub with greed.
And, somewhere in the midst I forgot to live life.
Ages completely in waste,
My wants took my best years from me.
Then, it was comforts, power, supremacy which decoyed me.
Now its simplicity and anonymity which entices life.
Strange life! Strange its ways.
Now when I look back
I see fame, comforts and luxuries at my feet.
A dream was fulfilled,
A journey was done.
And, somewhere in the midst many commitments shattered.
I achieved everything I aspired,
But the touch of passion is lost.
Relations broken; feelings estranged
The path to the gateway of my nostalgia is lost.
Life is so void.
My frozen heart now wants to mush with love.
The toddler in me wants to play, to laugh loudly.
The youth in me wants to feel the relations again.
To love and be loved, to have fun, to live life to the fullest.
But, everything in the midst of ages is lost.
Now, when I turn to the past,
I see a lonely fish dying to death in a big sea
I see a camel losing its way in the dreary desert,
I see a bird chained down,
I see a debacle of life.
