A Ray of Him

A husk of a puppet: like a fabricator He designed our covering. Like a farmer He implanted the seed that was our soul — our inherent nature His very own.

Human beings are made good, and to love is to reflect God. To laugh, to help, to look at the less fortunate as a child and wish to extend a hand is God's own ache shining through us, our empathy His own.

The malice, the pain, the grief that finds us is dust upon a doll. The ash of a dying world around us. It coats and sticks, inhaled into our lungs before escaping the confines of internal kindness.

So fabric is stained, fields are barren, and cruel words are common. But fabric can be washed, fields watered, and mouths rinsed — our coverings are not what makes us.

If even a single human can be looked at as kind, as the best person another can know, how much greater is God? If our saints are so saintly, how much more splendid is the Lord?

For since we carry but seeds of a soul made in His design, how beautiful He must be. Our seeds leave saplings for others to witness so that when our time comes, no one can be left blind to our Creator; for to know even one hint of good is to know only a fraction of God's grandeur.

For though our saplings can bloom into even the biggest tree... still that tree is only a fleck against the Earth. The Earth is His, and still only a fleck against the universe, and the universe is Him. For it is all and everything, beyond us and incomprehensible to us, yet it surrounds us and keeps us steady.

We have all reflected God and have all seen him, for all our good is only a salt grain to His greatness. And how great He is if the greatest thing we've ever known is just a ray of Him shining through us.

We look at a sunbeam and marvel at the hue it creates, at the details it reveals, dipped in gold and covered in radiance. Yet how much greater is the sun?

To love, as was asked, is to embody life itself, and in doing so all will have encountered the marvel behind it. For no other thing or being could be so visible that even the blind may see Him.
