A Musical By The Night
By Kanyaka Jena
Sitting by the riverside, on a gentle winter night
Feeling the subtle cool breeze brushing by my face,
I watched the sky adorned with little twinkling stars and the moon smiling brightly.
Just then, a comet flashed by, like a silver lining in the dark night.
The stars brightened up to cheer its journey in the vast expanse
The moon dimmed to honour it.
I swiftly wished for a wish.
A fish leapt out and sprinkled some water on me by its spectacular somersault,
The breeze seemed to grow chillier.
The sound of the racing yet calm river,
The sound of the chirping cricket,
The pleasant sounds of numerous insects,
And the lullaby of a mother bird singing its babies to sleep,
All synchronised to create the melody of the winter night.
The shadow of the little lamp by our side, cast a beautiful pattern around
Like the snowflakes of the winter snow.
The fireflies danced everywhere…
Feeling the breeze and every single moment life blessed us with,
We, the enthralled spectators, sat there,
Watching the musical directed by nature.
