A LIGHT I COULDN’T FOLLOW

Bestowed upon, yet set aside,

Tried to say goodbye but couldn’t turn aside.

Life kept moving without me,

a trail with its lights overshadowed by my darkness.

Every anticipated day turned to gloom,

each hopeful moment filled instead with doom.

Laughs and chuckles of those brought together,

while tears and sorrow of those kept apart forever.

Despite all those feelings,

I can’t hide the ache,

despite all the waiting,

I can’t hide hopes fading wake.
