A Lie is All it Takes

Why?

Why did you have to lie to me?

Break my heart into a billion pieces for?

I loved you.

I still do.

Yet you betrayed my trust.

And I don't think

I can face you the same way as before.

Talk to you about my worries,

or anything in particular.

A lie—

so simple to utter.

A few mere words.

And yet, day after day,

the depth of its pain

weighs far more

than I could ever have imagined.

And now,

you seem different.

A stranger.

I don't know if all that I saw of you until now

was fake—

or if it was the truth.

You broke my trust.

You broke it.

Entirely.
