A Golden Mark

Within the folds of an unfamiliar saffron

robe,

As a new page of Samsara unfolded in the Golden Land,

The gentle breeze of Suvarnabhumi carried toward me

The devout eyes of a mother I had never known.

Offering her infant into my arms,

With a silent plea that defied all language, She spoke through her gaze:

"Bless him, Venerable Banthe."

Amidst the tremor of my startled heart, From a hidden corner of childhood

memories-

Words etched in a Sunday school long ago

That noble resonance slipped from my lips: "Chakkavarankitha Rattasupado..."

The Narasiha Gatha, rising in sweet melody,

Echoed against the gilded temple walls, Creating a symphony divine.

Though the meaning remained unspoken, The power of the Buddha's form she felt within,

Overflowed as a joyful smile upon her face. A bond between two lands, held by a single faith,

A humanity that transcended all tongues; That moment, brushed with a simple smile, Remains a golden mark-upon my life in robes.
