A Flower That Bloomed Late

The garden bloomed in April,

but I remained a seed.

While every flower opened wide,

I wondered what was wrong with me.

I watched the roses reach the sun,

the lilies touch the sky,

while underneath the quiet earth

I waited, asking why.

Then summer came, and there I was-

a little late, perhaps.

But petals do not bloom for clocks;

they open when they're ready at last.
