A Desert Dream

I dream of the ocean.

In this hut of wood and feathers,

chopped and woven into a nest,

I stare out at the golden horizon

and watch the dunes of the desert shift beneath the heat.

The waves move beneath me,

bobbing up and down.

I drift among my people,

clothed in eland hide around the fire,

clapping and dancing to the Kalahari soul.

And I sit in this hut.

And I drift.

And I look down at the red sand between my toes

and wonder…

Does the ocean ever dream of me?
