A Day Of Terror

By Aarohi Srivastava

12th March1993, it was a Friday afternoon, the city rustled with people busy with their daily routines but little did they know that soon what seemed like another normal day would soon turn into their worst nightmare, between 1:30 to 3:40 p.m. the city of dreams ‘Mumbai’ (formally known as Bombay) was full of horror, terror and screams of helpless people screaming at the top of their lungs for their loved ones as twelve successive bomb blasts exploded the city. These bomb blasts brought the city’s most luxurious and important buildings to their knees, their targets were- Air India building; Bombay stock exchange; Shiv Sena headquarters and various cinemas and hotels. During the traumatizing disaster, over two hundred fifty people lost their lives and nearly fourteen hundred people got severely injured. Some lost their friends and some lost their family— now if you walk on the roads of the city, nothing can make you forget the disaster and if you think about this incident, you are sure to have tears falling down your eyes. This was one of the most terrifying disasters in India’s history, but from the ashes of the 1993 bombings rose a phoenix of hope and happiness, today undoubtably the city Mumbai is the commercial capital of India and is one of the most popular and populated cities in the world, not only this but it is also the heart of Bollywood and a home to India’s first five-star hotel.

“From ashes and fear, the city rose high, it’s legacy untouched as years pass by.”

I appreciate how you highlighted Mumbai's ability to 'bounce back.' Your focus on the collective courage of Mumbaikars during one of the city's darkest moments adds an inspiring layer to an otherwise somber topic . Gud work 👌
