You have a sharp mind

With an unspoken desire for freedom

That you sometimes claim to have

You hope the open air will tell you who you are,

Forgetting that open doors mean nothing

To a mind buried in the shadows

You say you have acquired wealth…

Forgetting that money means nothing

To a mind buried in grief

You say that the pain is part of the purpose…

Forgetting that purpose tastes like poison

To a mind buried in survival

You say it wasn’t meant to be…

Forgetting that destiny is a lie

To a mind buried in defeat

It is simple to forge a quiet lie

Focusing only on what you want to hear

But in the silence after the excuse…

What are you really seeking

To fill that void

With a mind cursed to notice everything

Trapped in its own sharp light

Can never truly be free…
