A Chance To Repay

What comes to me

is regret and regret alone

when I think of Mother.

I have seen enough

Of her eyes filled with tears,

Hands pockered with burns,

Feet lined with hard work.

We felt the most safe

On her lap, feeling warmth.

What we waited for

What we worked for

What we wished for

was a chance to repay

And not getting it

Is the most painful.

Regret is the most painful.

She was gone, long gone

Before our turn to repay.........
