Time

By Mary Anto

She waits, longing

pining for his return.

She ages, withers but

Time, the only barrier

between them tarries.

Iron and stone melt

before that tyrant

Time, which lingers

pitilessly gnawing

away at the link.

He waits, longing

pining for his release.

He languishes, but

Time, unfeeling fiend

quickens not its pace.

Iron bars imprison

body and spirit but

Time, the only barrier

between mother and son

permits not the reunion.
