Halo

By Sheryn Anand

Her heart was white,

Embellished with golden swirls,

Wings sprouted from its sides,

Extending joy ‘round the world.

She saw hurt in the eyes,

Of the stranger beside her,

And she gave her life,

For the stranger beside her.

And it started small, a dot of bright colour,

And the matter grew and stretched behind her,

And I saw it curve, and I saw it twist,

And the two ends crawled to each other and kissed,

They formed a ring ‘round her head,

And from it, a neon glow bled,

And it radiated wisps of hope and glimmer,

A symbol of her, kind and tender.

Her heart was heavy,

Drenched in black,

Blood trickling down its sides,

Love was what it lacked.

She saw hurt in the eyes,

Of the stranger beside her,

And took the life,

Of the stranger beside her.

And it started small, a dot of no colour,

And the matter grew and stretched behind her,

And I saw it curve, and I saw it twist,

And the two ends crawled to each other and kissed,

They formed a ring ‘round her head,

And from it, an evil smoke bled,

And it radiated wisps of grey and dark,

A symbol of her, cruel and hard.
