She
By Michelle Fernandez
She fights for survival even before she’s taken her first breath,
She is you, she is me, she is us.
She demands the right to be heard and seen as she grows up,
She is you, she is me, she is us.
She works tirelessly to prove herself in a world which would not exist had she not been around,
She is you, she is me, she is us.
She searches for someone not to complete her but to compliment her,
She is you, she is me, she is us.
She decides she wants to brave life’s journey on her own and chart her own course across life’s ocean,
She is you, she is me, she is us.
She builds a life and a family and then has to work at building herself back up,
She is you, she is me, she is us.
She survives pain; emotional, mental and physical with a smile,
She is you, she is me, she is us.
She brings forth new life and nurtures it with all of her being,
She is you, she is me, she is us.
She moulds and breathes life into the world just by being in it,
She is you, she is me, she is us.
She adorns herself with stars and flowers and protects herself with love and wisdom,
She is you, she is me, she is us.
She is a daughter, a sister, a mother, a friend, a lover, a warrior, a teacher, a protector,
She is fire and ice,
She is sugar and spice,
She is laughter and tears,
She is the sun and the moon,
She is a breeze and a tornado,
She is the question and the answer.
She is woman,
She is you, she is me, she is us.
