23 July 2020

Six years have passed

since the day you left us, Daddy.

It still feels strange celebrating milestones

while wishing you were here to see them with us.

So much has happened,

and I wish I could sit beside you

and tell you every little thing you've missed.

Your youngest daughter,

Fazeela,

is now the proud mom of the sweetest little girl,

our Samiha.

She's three years old now,

the cutest little soul to ever exist.

She's clever beyond her years-

she even knows how to play Limbo,

and every moment I spend babysitting her

fills my heart with so much joy.

I know you would've adored her,

and she would've wrapped you around her tiny finger.

Mom found someone new,

someone who brings kindness, comfort, and love into our lives.

Uncle Jay.

The little things about him remind me so much of you-

the way he helps without being asked,

the way he loves your daughter and granddaughter,

the quiet strength he carries.

I just know you would've liked him.

And me...

I started high school this year.

I got into my dream school,

something I always hoped for.

It's been the best thing that's happened to me.

I've made wonderful friends,

I'm happy,

I'm learning,

and for the first time in a long time,

I truly enjoy going to school.

I wish you could've seen me in my uniform.

I hope you would've been proud.

Safwaan is doing so well too.

He's in his final year of primary school,

working hard and making us all proud.

I know you would've smiled

seeing the young man he's becoming.

Life has kept moving,

just like everyone said it would.

But missing you never stopped.

Some days it's quiet,

other days it feels as heavy as ever.

I still wonder what you'd say,

what jokes you'd make,

what advice you'd give.

I still imagine the smile on your face

as you watched our family grow.

You've missed so much,

yet somehow,

you're still part of every achievement,

every celebration,

every memory we make.

We carry you with us every single day.

I hope we're making you proud, Daddy.

Forever loved.

Forever missed.
