To Write

By Sharanya S Rao

To write, in my opinion is to attempt to put into words the elegance and chaos in each of our minds owing to mother nature’s gifts to us; which happen to be the artlessly innocent yet notorious child - creativity, and the mighty and decorated prince - expression. Writing is a window to the soul, revealing hidden work of art buried deep within, that catches us in a trance so pleasing and powerful. Every written work is a part of the writers themself; it is a spec amongst the vast multitude that makes the writer whoever it is that they are.

To imagine for a writer is just as pleasurable as it would be for us to turn into a free bird, an eagle soaring high above the clouds, feeling the wind ruffling through its feathers as it remains unbothered by the downpour crashing on those below. Once having known the solace, tranquility and relief that writing brings, one is unable to overlook it and will return for more; more of that very trinkle of excitement in one’s skin when they realize that they could go on forever, that all the words in English literature would not suffice to do justice to the imagination of the human mind. Yet one strives, trying their very best to

express a thought at its utmost purity; unfiltered and unadulterated, delivered to the reader just as it was formed. Frantically running through every corner of the maze that seems to be their mind, they hassle to collect the right words, vital for sustaining their chain of thoughts.

Whether or not you, the reader, acknowledge their work or not is of no consequence to their purpose, for they write not for the honour, applause, or recognition nor do they dwell over or bother of the despise, condemnation or disparity. They write and shall continue to write only for the fulfillment of their desire to re-experience the epiphany, that is to travel to a world of possibilities – a writer’s world. A barren land in which exists a single tree, a land which can be purified only by the blossoming of its sole inhabitant - occurring in the form of one’s writing; propagating a wave of its fragrance, so mystical and powerful that it spreads far beyond these lands, to several others, facilitating in their blossoming. Once in a blue moon occurs a phenomenal blossom with such irrevocable force that it puts spring to shame - writing at its best, enrapturing the reader, gushing in their mind waves of inspiration.

For the sake of the multitude of joys that writing brings and the freedom in thought that it facilitates, we write and we write to free the soul.
