The Way It Turned Out

By Sohani Parmar

I was sitting on a bench alone thinking how everything can change in a span of a year.

It seems like yesterday when I met him. At that time I didn't know him. He randomly messaged me on Instagram and from a simple text our conversation started.

Him- "Thanks?"

Me- "For what?"

Him- "Sorry, right now my mood is off."

Me- "Okay".

I never imagined this odd conversation could ever turn into something so beautiful feeling called love. Frankly speaking, I never thought I would ever talk to the guy after this but sure destiny had some other plans.

We were from the same city but currently were living in different towns due to our work. The same origin gave us reason to connect and slowly we became friends and eventually fell in love.

But what's love without ups and downs right? Our fairytale came to an end when we both started living in the same city. And due to family issues we parted our ways.

Though it was mutual, so were our feelings. We cannot stay apart for long and we just kept going on and off every time till the date one of us decided to give up under family pressure to marry someone else.

Him- I don't know what to do.

Me- What do you think?

Him- I can't take it anymore. I have to give up.But I love you so much.

Me- I know you love me, in fact you are in love with me. I know that I really know that. Do whatever is good for the family. I know it's hard for you but just for me stay happy always because that's all that matters for me.

Those were my words to him because truly I never doubted his feelings. And I always wished for his happiness. Although it killed me from inside but for his sake I can die a thousand times.

After a year I am sitting on a bench, I was just watching the sunset and reminiscing about all the memories I had carried in my heart. Suddenly, someone came around and sat next to me. I never bothered to notice.

"Can you atleast have a look at me?"

I was shocked to hear that voice. What was he doing here?

"What are you doing here?" I asked in still in shock.

"Just can't leave you alone." He said pointing out a ring from his pocket.

"Wait what?"

And that's how our fairytale ended. I almost cried narrating the story to my daughters while kissing my husband in sleep.
