The Traveller

By Raima Joseph

Here’s another entry to my vlog, dear viewers, but it comes with a wee twist. To find out what I hide from ye, ye’ll have to watch this till the end. Although, ye must be wonderin’ about why me accent has changed. The truth about me accent is that I must at all times speak like I am born n’ bred in these here lands of good ol’ Scandinavian roots, whence the Nords hailed.

That’s is right, my frijondz. I, Beatrice Brown, have travelled back to the Nordic Era; to 850AD. This is the age of the Vikings, where these humongous men pillaged and pirated across seas and hills to find purpose. Joining them at their common haunts has been an astounding experience. Take a look at this clip of when Ivar “The Boneless” taught me how to drink like a Viking.

“No, frejya, ye must drink yer ale in a single go! This is what provides us when energy when we sail across to find land; and with land comes power!”. Ivar and the keepers of the bar, or as they called it, a “Mead Hall”, named the pub Mjolnir, which was the name given to Thor’s mighty hammer.  Most hang-outs here are named in the honour of the Gods they worship, as it is their belief that keeping their first priority as conviction to their Gods will help them in reaching Ragnarok: a heaven where all Vikings stand with Odyn after the end of it all.

On the second day of my trip back in time, I met a skjoldsmoyer, a shield-maiden, or as they are in our time called: the Valkyries. Brynhildr, as her name went, told me all about how it was her dream to die a glorious death while fighting for her place in a world where Men were considered the most rugged and invincible creatures. Here’s a little video of Brynhildr explaining her key to Valhalla, an afterlife for all Vikings and Valkyries who crusaded across countries with distinction.

“Me mum often told me to cook and clean like an obedient frejya but, me heart was latched on to achieve the splendour that even the brawniest of Vikings couldn’t! I plundered all over these lands, along with me frijondz, and won many a battle. As our ancestors say, “Fight your foes, nor be blunt in the house.”, I shall take on any challenge that comes my way!”. Brynhildr’s words were so uplifting that she helped me stiffen my resolve.

Ah, yes. My resolve, you must be inquisitive about. I shall be a straight shooter when I elucidate that, unfortunately, I no longer have an interest in making vlogs. Being with the Nords; learning about the Vikings and their aspirations, has given me a new sense of living. It is now that I have seen the light to my actual ambition in life. I will raid like a Valkyrie and drink like a Viking. My name is no longer Beatrice Brown.

This is Bjarnhilla “The Traveller” signing out.
