A Little Mermaid

Amongst the coral hearts

And pointed eyes was she.

A little mermaid out of sea

Blue and pure as ever.

Like herself, deep was the sea

She had dwelled within

For now she had fumbled forth

On to the lands.

Where fishes, great and small

Had glided by her.

Birds flew past the trees

Up above her.

As she struggled in her step

Bare and white became

The leaves and stems beneath her

For even the deep seas have a darkness within.
