2020 : The Year That Was (दो हज़ार बीस)

That night we bid adieu to twenty twenty

Very few claps, brickbats plenty

Thank God this godforsaken year has ended

That had destroyed more than it had mended

However, a question now comes to mind

About the year that's got everyone in a bind

Was it wrong, this year? Or was it just different?

Though many things were taken away

Weren't a few lessons learned along the way?

We were drowning in the whirlpool of life

Losing our voice in cacophony and strife

Running and chasing every fancy and whim

A chance to take a breath was also so slim

Then came this comma, like a test

Said, take a pause! Get some rest!

A full-blown pandemic came along

Showed us the value of those who belong

Our own health, the love of those who matter

Towered over and above all the chatter

Of course, there was sadness, and hardship too

When fear gripped us we didn't know what to do

But we fought, and we triumphed, we went every length

Discovered the brilliance of our inner strength

Innumerable fragments of our time

We were whiling away in life's pantomime

Which truly should've belonged to those

Whom we love and to whom we're close

We lost ourselves too, didn’t we?

Searching in others for validation

Through new eyes of self-respect, did we see

To be yourself was the only destination.

2020 was different

Not wrong.

The fear of death, perhaps

Taught us how to live a little
