The Silence That Befalls

When the drapes of stage are drawn,

and the actors finally recede.

Applause for the shuddering last pawn,

then silence and echoes accede.

When the last act is overtly ceased,

and the world embraces sleep.

The night and dark seem pleased,

it's what the day has to reap.

When the brink of night is near,

and the nightingale finally calls.

One can closely and clearly hear,

it is the silence that befalls.
